Supporting regulation, one playful moment at a time.

If your child only wants to climb, jump or go as f If your child only wants to climb, jump or go as fast as possible, they're not being difficult.

Their nervous system is asking for something.

Some kids have a high threshold for movement input. They need more intensity, more speed, more height than most before their body registers "enough." So they keep going. Onto the sofa, off the bed, up the furniture.

The question isn't how do we get them to stop. It's how do we get them enough of what they need, safely, so their body isn't left searching for it in less safe ways.

During OT sessions at It’s Just Play, we use mater During OT sessions at It’s Just Play, we use materials like theraputty to build skills before moving on to the actual task. This means by the time your child picks up a pencil, scissors or spoon, their hands are already ready for it.

Hot take from an OT: I deliberately let my clients Hot take from an OT: I deliberately let my clients take risks in therapy.

Not recklessly. But because climbing, jumping and yes, falling a little, is how kids learn what their body can do.

If your child freezes at the playground or avoids anything new, there’s usually a reason. And it’s not just “being cautious.”

We’re looking for a locum/part-time occupational t We’re looking for a locum/part-time occupational therapist who has experience working with children, and wants to be part of a practice where relationship-centred care isn’t just a value on a wall, it’s actually how we work.

Here’s what working with us looks like:
- Weekly check-ins, honest and practical supervision
- A team that communicates openly and on the go
- Flexibility is part of the deal and we support it

If you’re someone who finds meaning in the small wins, who believes in nervous system regulation over compliance, and and wants to understand and help parents understand what's driving a child's behaviour rather than just managing it, we would love to hear from you!

"My child doesn't sit still in class". This is on "My child doesn't sit still in class".

This is one of the most common things parents come to me with. Especially in Singapore especially where school demands kick in early, it's stressful to watch your child struggle to keep up in the classroom.

But more table time and more drilling isn't always the answer. For a lot of kids, the body needs to move before it can settle. Not as a reward but as a requirement.

Swipe to understand what's actually going on, and what you can do about it at home.

I see kids who struggle with winning and losing al I see kids who struggle with winning and losing all the time.

And honestly? The issue isn't that they can't handle losing. It's that they haven't had enough practice winning first. Winning feels good for a reason. It tells a child's brain: I am capable. I can do this. And that feeling is what gives them the safety net to eventually handle losing without falling apart.

But for a lot of kids, especially those with sensory or motor differences, genuine winning experiences are actually pretty rare. The games are too fast, the rules too rigid, or the gap between them and everyone else too obvious.

That's where we come in. Not to make things easier but to set up the environment so success is actually within reach.

Swipe to see how that played out in a session this week. 👉

If your child cries at drop off every morning, rea If your child cries at drop off every morning, read this before you panic.

Because the first step isn’t booking anyone or googling anything. It starts with one question: Is this happening everywhere, or only at school?

When my daughter started crying at every drop off, I was worried. I’m an OT, I know what separation anxiety looks like. And I almost jumped straight to intervention.

But she was fine the moment I left. Fine throughout the whole day. Her teachers confirmed it. That was the clue.

She had just moved into K2. New teachers, new expectations. The goodbye to her K1 teacher that she had been really close to was harder than any of us realised.

It wasn’t a red flag. It was a transition that needed more support. Here’s what actually helped:
→ Verbal reassurance about what the day would look like
→ Picking up slightly earlier that first week
→ A tight hug at drop off. The firm pressure gives her nervous system a clear signal that she’s grounded and safe before walking in
→ A Needoh to squeeze during the day if she needed it

Tears are communication. Our job is to figure out what they’re saying. If your child is struggling at drop off, it’s worth asking what changed. And if you’re not sure where to start, that’s exactly what we’re here for. 💛

Some children have the biggest, most exciting idea Some children have the biggest, most exciting ideas that change 10 times before anything actually happens. Coming up with a plan can feel impossible.

That's what we work on at It's Just Play. We meet your child in their world (yes, even D-Day at Normandy) and help them learn to plan, organise, and carry their ideas through, one step at a time.

When a child feels heard and supported, their confidence grows along with their ideas.

A beautiful reminder from working with two differe A beautiful reminder from working with two different groups of teachers over the past two weeks: When we slow down and get curious, classrooms become places of learning for both adults and children.

We talked about behaviour, sensory experiences, and inclusion in ways that feel practical and possible in group settings. We explored how understanding our own window of tolerance, and using simple strategies and accommodations, can help both children and adults stay regulated throughout the day.

Always grateful for educators who are open to learning and reflection.

Do you have kids in your classroom or groups that Do you have kids in your classroom or groups that are disruptive, not engaged or unable to separate from caregivers?

The teachers at United Learning Centre (ULC) shared some of their challenges and more in the workshop that was conducted yesterday. Here are some of the takeaways:

• Use a visual schedule
• Provide structure in the session
• Look at the environment and how appropriate it is for the child.
• Use music and movement as part of transitions.
